Grand Theft Auto VI preloads on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S starting November 12, seven days before the November 19 launch, and nobody outside Rockstar knows yet how big the download will be.

The preload date comes from Take-Two's pre-order announcement, which MP1st reported on June 24, 2026. As MP1st described it, preloading applies to anyone who pre-orders, regardless of edition. That release did not give a start time, and we have not found an official one since. One outlet, ProPakistani, wrote on October 28 that digital preloads would open at midnight local time. Treat that as unconfirmed until Rockstar or the console storefronts say so.

What is official about the GTA 6 preload, and what is not

Rockstar's pricing, as relayed by Windows Central and SVG: $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. SVG also reported on September 13 that the physical edition is a case containing a download code rather than a disc, so a shelf copy does not get you out of the download.

The file size is the open question. Rockstar has not announced one. The 210 GB number traces to PlayStation Game Size, an X account that tracks PlayStation Store listings, which posted it on October 27. Insider Gaming, per ProPakistani's October 28 write-up, said it independently confirmed the figure. That makes it a store-data leak, not a Rockstar statement.

Even that report has caveats. ProPakistani noted it is unclear whether 210 GB is the full installed size or only the download, and that a day-one patch could change it. No Xbox figure has been reported. SVG's own guess was about 150 GB, "typical for a recent AAA game", which is speculation rather than data. Wait for the store listing before you trust any number.

For scale, ProPakistani put the PS5's usable storage at roughly 667 GB. At 210 GB, GTA 6 would take up close to a third of it.

What to do before November 12

Check free space now, not on preload night, when everyone else's console is also downloading. If you are short, our launch-week setup checklist covers storage and timing, and the WD Black SN850X price watch tracks one of the common internal SSD options for PS5 owners.

On hardware, we found no official PS5 or Xbox console bundle for the game. Sony has promoted the PS5 version in a blog post, saying it "will play best on PS5" with near-instant loading, as reported by Dexerto, but that is marketing copy rather than a bundle. German retailers have run their own GTA 6 and PS5 Pro deals, per Giga, which says little about a US plan.

We also found no new official Rockstar announcement in the past week: no trailer, no patch notes, no review embargo. The date, price and platforms are unchanged from our earlier launch update, and PC is still absent from day one.

The store listing, not the rumour mill, is the number to wait for. We will update this piece when a start time or an official size appears, which, given the calendar, should be soon.
