For years wireless headsets all asked for the same bargain: great freedom, followed by a charging cable every few days. HyperX's Cloud line has long been the headset people recommend to friends who do not want to think about their audio, so the question with the HyperX Cloud III Wireless is whether it keeps that promise without the cable. The real question is whether freedom from the cable is worth paying extra for a headset that skips almost every extra. This review is based on HyperX's specifications and the testing published by other reviewers; BlitzRig has not run its own battery, microphone or comfort tests on this headset, so every figure is attributed to its source.

What the Cloud III Wireless is

The Cloud III Wireless carries the Cloud family look: a sturdy metal-reinforced frame, memory-foam earcups and a restrained design, with a red-accent version listed on HyperX's own site. Reported weights vary between sources, roughly 308g to 330g depending on who measured and whether the mic is attached. It connects through a 2.4 GHz USB-C dongle, with a USB-A adapter in the box, and works with PC, PS5, PS4 and Switch.

At launch the headset came in at $169.99 according to Windows Central and Dexerto. TechRadar listed a lower $149.99 for the US. Prices drift, so check the current number before you buy.

What reviewers found

The headline number is battery life. HyperX rates the headset at up to 120 hours, and independent testing backs that up closely: Dexerto measured around 110 hours at roughly 60% volume, and Windows Central's reviewer was still at 79% battery after two weeks of long workdays and evening sessions. In practice that means charging about once a month. TechRadar's headline sums up the review consensus as fantastic battery life and booming audio.

Sound comes from 53mm angled drivers, and DTS Headphone:X spatial audio is available through the NGENUITY software on PC. The microphone is detachable, so with the mic removed the headset passes for a normal pair of headphones, and the Cloud line's dongle covers PC and consoles from one receiver.

Where the Cloud III Wireless falls short

The connection is 2.4 GHz only, so there is no Bluetooth to pair the headset with a phone. If you want one headset to cover games and your commute, a competitor with dual wireless, like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Gen 2, is the better pick. Reviewers also note the NGENUITY software is basic, with limited EQ options compared with the deep suites from some rivals, and that there is no LED battery indicator.

The biggest question is value. The wired Cloud III shares the same drivers, mic and general design for a good deal less. If your desk is next to your PC, the wired model is the smarter buy. The wireless version only makes sense if you really want to move around, or if you share one headset between a console and a PC. If you are building a wireless desk around it, our Keychron Q3 HE review covers a wireless keyboard, and our ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM review covers a fast display.

Who it's for

The Cloud III Wireless is for the player who wants a headset to disappear: long-lasting, easy to use, and simple. It is not for buyers who want deep tuning, Bluetooth, or flashy extras.

Verdict: 8.0 / 10

The HyperX Cloud III Wireless does the basics very well, and the battery life is the best reason to buy it. The lack of Bluetooth and the thin software keep it from a higher score. Buy it if you play across PC and consoles and hate recharging; skip it and get the wired Cloud III if you sit at a desk and the cable never bothers you. This score is our editorial assessment of the published specifications and reviews, not the result of our own bench testing.
